Potamos Germasogeias is the most popular part of the Limassol tourist area, right on the beach and five minutes drive east of Limassol town centre. Visitors coming to Germasogeia with its modern five-star hotels are often taken by surprise to find out that Germasogeia is not just a beach. Its area extends into the valley of Germasogeia where the old village of Germasogeia lies. The name of the village Yera-Mesogia - Holy Inland Area - derives from its location and its cultural background. Yera indicates that in the area there were many churches and Mesogia, that the village is away from the coast. The two areas of Germasogeia are "divided" by the new motorway.
